Boomslang is a three-day, multi-venue music and art festival in Lexington, Kentucky. Brought to you by WRFL 88.1 Radio Free Lexington — the University of Kentucky’s student radio station — Boomslang is a celebration of visionary, experimental, genre-bending music and media, as well as a showcase of Lexington’s unique venues and culture. Started by a small group of students and volunteers in 2009, Boomslang is a grassroots effort that continues to rely on students, community volunteers and University of Kentucky staff members to keep it running.
In the spirit of independent media, the lineup highlights local artists, regional favorites and international legends — artists who have been critically acclaimed for their innovation and willingness to think outside the box. In stride with our radio station’s mantra, Boomslang keeps it “all the way to the left” and focuses on providing a platform for non-mainstream, non-commercial music and other art forms, including but not limited to film, fashion, visual and literary art.
