Lexington Fashion Collaborative Gallery Opening

posted on September 3, 2010 by Saraya

The Lexington Fashion Collaborative, a cooperative of Lexington-area fashion artists (models, designers, photographers, hair and make-up artists, etc.), will present the opening of their exhibit NEIGHBORHOOD SERIES on Sunday evening, September 12 in conjunction with Boomslang. The brainchild of many artists behind last year’s circus-themed fashion show on the Buster’s Parking Lot runway, NEIGHBORHOOD SERIES is a series of meticulously-crafted installation pieces (including large-scale costumes worm by “living art” models) directly inspired by the locally-owned businesses of Local First Lexington – and created from recycled materials  provided by these businesses. Think dresses made from cupcake wrappers, rugs woven from magazines, hats made from plastic cups, and much much more.

Trash has never looked so haute.

Land of Tomorrow Gallery, 527 E. Third St. 7 p.m. Sunday Sept 12. FREE.

We Are Naked After All

posted on September 2, 2010 by Saraya

Bruce Burris & co. have assembled a fabulous crew at LATITUDE to create the performance/installation art WE ARE NAKED AFTER ALL for Saturday’s Boomslang Carnival. A beautifully adorned booth will feature an unadorned (aka naked) person, and visitors are invited to initiate a conversation with said naked person ~ asking them any questions you like, in order to create a “conversation which is more open and honest.”

LFL to screen HEAVY METAL PARKING LOT

posted on by Saraya

Lexington Film League will screen HEAVY METAL PARKING LOT and the rest of the Parking Lot Series in Buster’s own rock-n-roll parking lot on Friday September 10, 8:30 p.m.. Heavy Metal Parking Lot documents tailgating metal fans in the parking lot outside a Judas Priest concert in Landover, Maryland in 1986. Others in the series, all by filmmakers John Heyn and Jeff Krulik, include Neil Diamond Parking Lot, Monster Truck Parking Lot, and Harry Potter Parking Lot. The screening will be free and open to the public, not just festival pass holders. Bring blankets and chairs if you so desire!
